Biography
Pauline Scanlon has a voice described by The Irish Times as “a superb mix of china cup fragility and steely strength”- Hailing from the strong West Kerry tradition of song, she has the ability interpret her physical and emotional landscape. Pauline has released 4 albums all to critical acclaim, 2 solo offerings and in recent years 2 as half of celebrated duo LUMIERE. Pauline’s distinctive voice has seen her perform around the globe on stages from Glastonbury to New York’s Carnegie Hall. Over the years she has performed and recorded with some of Ireland’s most cherished artists including Sinéad O’Connor, Damien Dempsey, Séamus Begley and John Spillane to name a few. Pauline is a fluent Irish speaker and is the presenter of ‘Bosca Ceoil’ on TG4, Ireland’s newest and most innovative live traditional music programme. Throughout her career Pauline has exemplified her worldly knowledge of different musical styles and showcased her ability and willingness to cross-traditional boundaries while maintaining her roots in West Kerry.
